VIDEO REFLECTION
The story of stuff
After watched this video i learned material economy, and some social issues in our society.- We have too much material waste in our society, which lead our society have too much pollution.
- People has a lot of products today but the national happiness going down.
- The recycle issue .
As a design student ,when i design a product i have to deeply think about how my design can makes people happy . how long my design can last in peoples' normal life . is it useful or just design for dump.
In the recycle part , in my follow projects i will very carefully think about how to let my products become the true recycle and as simple as it can be .
The story of electronics
I really like the sentence in this video : DESIGN TO LAST. From this video i have learned some social issues about the electronics .- In now days , technology developing very quickly. However , the electronics waste is a big issue in our life
- Electronic products are contain toxic which harmful to human's life.
For the toxic products , as a design student i will carefully choose the materials avoid use all the toxic materials .
The story of cosmetics
In this video here has so many unsafe products and here have no particular law to protect health . In the long run , it is very necessary for government come up new laws.As a design student, here has not much i can do , only thing i can do is , when i design the packaging high light the harmful elements.
The story of bottle water
After watching this video i have learned about water bottle- The bottle made by oil
- The bloody bottle water's companies seducing us , scaring us and misleading us to buy the water bottle.
- How the water be recycled
- How the government treat the water bottle pollution issue .
It is lack moral for the factories to seducing us , scaring us and misleading us to buy their products. A good business should not do that . in my opinion , government should let school add courses about how people takes responsibility for environment , human health , ect .So ,when the students graduate from school to society they will burden other. which means whatever job their are doing in the future , they will not seducing, scaring and misleading people for the money purpose.
I am really sick about how they recycle the bottles, put rubbish to other countries! it is not a right way to recycle it . what a design student can do is find 100% recyclable material instead of using oil to making bottles or design a new green packaging for the bottle water.
For the government, they should do what video suggested. This is peoples' word not few government officer's world , they should pay attention to hearing people's voice .
FEED BACK 3
TUTOR :
1,Put drawings and development process in the rationale . Analysis the stats , put the user instruction in the back of package , do more research about brands .Do more research about labellings.2, Reference need footnote in the bottom page of rational, show all the development in the rational ,
put marketing knowledge in the rationale,High light the features in the rationale. The package is too big and it takes too much room in the laundry , change the shape of the package. The square entrances can change to be circle .
PEER 1:
The packaging is too board and not creative , although , it is so hard to shipping .FEED BACK 2
TUTOR :
1,It is right direction2,Set the pick up area in the bottom
Peer Feedback:
PEER1:
The cylinder shape may be not easy to contain the detergent pods.Use cylinder is too complicate change the shape of the packaging.PEER2:
It is good ideal to connect all the individual detergent pods . However , use cylinder may hard to take product out of package.Sunday, March 17, 2013
WPR-FEED BACK
TUTOR:
- Didposal design is not relative to the social problem.
- Ideas are so bord .
- Do more research about social problem
- Focus on antifreeze
Peer Feedback :
PEER 1:
- The idea of changing detergent pods' packaging is very interesting. I Thought it was candy. Also , the antifreeze is common idea.
- The idea of design the packaging for the heart disease people with trembling hand is useless and shape too boxy. try to add some curve elements.
- The idea of disposable container is nice thinking but usually not work probably.
PEER 2:
- The idea of changing the antifreeze packaging :Do not use red, yellow and blue for the package.
- Do not like the design for the heart disease people with trembling hand.
- Do not use PVC for container , it is poison people while they use it.
PEER3:
- The idea of changing detergent pods' packaging if it works will be fine. make it hard to open it , use the push down and squeeze capsule to design the packaging.
- The idea of design the packaging for the heart disease people with trembling hand:the box maybe open in the bag when people do not wanna use it.
- For the antifreeze try to design it big enough then kids will not able to hold it !
Week 2 - WPR
ANTIFREEZE!
The shape of packaging and colour can affect people drinking
1.Curve glass shape affect people drink more and fast :Hundreds of news sources around the globe covered the findings, many of them changing the story slightly to report that people drink more (rather than faster) from a curved glass.
The Bristol team invited participants into the lab and asked them to drink lager (or lemonade) from a straight class or a curved one, while watching a nature documentary (a BBC one, I'm happy to report). They also asked their volunteers to judge when the glass was half full. The results of both were clear, participants finished their drink of lager sooner in the curved glass. They also judged the halfway point as being lower down the curved glass than the straight glass – suggesting a reason for the faster drinking: if people thought the glass was fuller than it really was when then they would underestimate the rate at which they were drinking.

2.Shapes can have impact on favour:
Manufactures of food and beverages know
that if they apply the right shapes on packaging and presentation, sales
volumes will go up! They understand that when shapes, designs, colors and even
words and aromas satisfy our sensorial expectations on taste and flavour, and
they are then doing a great job for the company because their sales grow.
The shapes and colors consumers see on
labels, the shape of food and beverage packaging, the plates on which the
products are served and even the form in which the food itself is presented
have a strong impact on the response of consumers who subconsciously make
hedonic choices when it comes to taste/flavor choices.
It was previously suggested that the colors
and shapes of product packaging can be just as important, if not more, than any
text/descriptions, in terms of setting-up expectations (whether consciously or
otherwise) about a product’s likely sensory qualities specially on account of
the little attention consumers give to some labels (e.g., back labels on wine
bottles).
The theory here is that under the majority
of conditions (molecular gastronomy restaurants excepted) consumers tend to
prefer products if their taste, aroma, flavor, and/or oral attributes match
their sensory expectations.
Similarly, a number of other beverage products appear to use
angular red shapes, frequently a star, sometimes a triangle or pyramid, in
order to sub-consciously signal to the consumer that the contents of the
packaging are carbonated (and/or bitter-tasting).]
2.Colour :
How
has color been used in molecular gastronomy? At The Fat Duck, Heston Blumenthal
plays with color in his “Orange Jelly” dish to make diners believe a
purple-colored jelly is beetroot and an orange is orange when in fact the
reverse is true.
What Looks High-Quality:
What two colors make people want
to drink?
It's believed that yellow makes people want to drink
liquids, although blue and green tend to be popular for beer while red is most
popular for cola. It depends whether it's about thirst or sweetness or
something else.
From all those articals, i read from the internent.i decide in my design not have any elements of curves and red, grean, blue, yellow.

Giving packaging a new life
Giving packaging a new life
HOW IT'S MADE–PACKAGING
Design is a course
of life and it enhances better lifestyle and convenience of life. Those videos are amazing because they
bring me to the attention of people’s daily life, what people uses and wastes every
day.
Cardboard
boxes
It is really
brilliant to recycle the cardboard boxes into beautiful tissue boxes. This
shows how we can transform waste material into the new packaging for
alternative usage.
QUZ: Also, I have a question is how we
recycle the tissue boxes?? should we recycle to making papers?
Packaging
tubes
This video
opens my mind to think about packaging. In the industry today, there are various
ways of packing liquid goods. The using of packaging tubes can reduce the
packaging weight and assets, and the transport cost.
Tetrapack
Tetra pack is
one of the most popular packaging in these modern days. In this video, tetra
pack shows its advantages: classic physical look, easy to be transported,
compare with glass bottle it has bigger volume, and it keeps liquid products
last longer. However, everything has two sides. Tetra pack is hard to be recycled,
if we don’t carefully recycle it, it may have bad impact to the water and clay
or even animals.
Recycling
I don’t really
agree with putting the litter under the ground to deal with rubbish. The
non-biodegradable rubbish will stay under the ground for many years. Some
rubbish might produce chemicals that damage the clay. In this video, as a
design student, I learned that I should pay attention to choose the material
used for my design, I have responsibility to use green material, design useful products
which gives value to people from generation to generation, to eradicate the
need for joining underground recycling party.
Aluminium
cans
In my personal opinion,
aluminium cans play a very important role in our food storage. However,
aluminium is harmful if it gets into our body. Thus in my future design, I will
minimise or if possible avoid to use it for kitchen products.
Glass
bottles
It is interesting
to know what the glass bottles are made of. Glass bottles need to be recycled very
carefully because each we recycle can light up a 100wz light bulb for 4 hours.
Before, I
thought industry design is just to design goods but watching those videos I see
that not only the public but the designers too have the responsibility to keep
the environment.
Plastic
bottles and jars
I really like
this part which shows how they test the plastic bottles and jars.
The elasticity
of plastic highlights how I should consider more precisely about the shape of
the product when I design.
